Warehouse Automation: Lowering Costs And Increasing Efficiency

Warehouse automation or the introduction of computer software and machines in distribution centers is a great way to improve efficiency throughout the factory. By automating the procedures involved in product distribution, the center will reduce the product management manually, which will greatly reduce human error, not only reduce the cost of expenses But also increases the speed of the entire system as well

Depending on the needs of the distribution center, the whole system can be automated or there may be only one or two components. There are three basic types of automation that can be used manually or combined throughout the location.

Automatic conveyor and sorting system

Simple conveyor belts arrange products transported throughout the warehouse. The automation of the conveyor system means that employees no longer need to transport physical goods through the center. The product may be placed on a conveyor which will be placed where needed.

The sorting system is similar to a simple conveyor. But has a higher capacity and ability to direct the container to a specific location In general, automatic sorting methods are used to determine the volume of small, large quantities of containers to various locations.

Automatic storage and recalling system

Automatic storage and recall systems or ASRS may be seen as a large vending machine. It consists of different computer-controlled processes. This agreement uses machines to deposit products at their designated locations. Then, when it’s time to send them out to pull the items, place them on the conveyor and transport them to the transport Docks

ASRS will track inventory, reduce the need for manual counting and save more time and money.

Automatic picking system

With voice selection or light system selection, command selection will be vastly more effective. Instead of relying on the paper printing of the items that need to be used, the system tells the options to go and the number of items to retrieve.

The voice command process uses a mobile unit that is connected to the headset. The unit uses sound technology to tell the choice of location, desired product, and amount to choose. Day’s orders can be downloaded to the unit at the beginning of each shift and organized by department.

With the light pick-up system, special modules are attached to each storage location. When wanting an object in that location, the light will be brighter to draw attention to that area. The module shows the number of units of that item that is desired. Once the desired amount has been selected, the option confirms that the job is done by pressing the appropriate button on the module. This is one of the fastest and most efficient picking systems.

Smart warehouses: automation is the wave of the future

Although it may seem like a distressing process But the automation of the warehouse is to improve the distribution center. With the use of computer programs, human errors are greatly reduced and all facilities are able to work faster and more efficiently. By reducing the time it takes to perform orders as well as reducing both time and material waste, automating the warehouse is truly a benefit.
