homeowners must also consider the types of insulation they should use. There are three main types of protection: complete wall protection, encapsulation and foam. Consider the pros and cons of these and ask your contractor for advice on which models they think are appropriate for your structure.
Absorbable wrap
Enclosed, absorbed insulation allows moisture to escape while leaving the wind and water. This is important because if moisture is trapped within the structure,
it will become a breeding ground for harmful fungus and rot.
The absorbed wrap is used under the outer material and needs to cover the entire structure for maximum efficiency. If you use this type,
check to make sure that there is an impermeable vapor barrier that will stop the condensation damage that may occur when the air from the outside touches the interior of the house.
There should be a cover sheet that is wrapped or weathered in the siding project that has previously been done.
Fanfold insulation beside the house siding
Another common type of protection is the Fanfold. This type uses foam boards with thicknesses from ¼ “to ¾” and provides a stable and flat base for the outer layers of the house. The exterior material will go straight and smooth, creating a professional and smooth surface for your home.
Is the type of insulation commonly used in wall installation in the home and may not be the most effective because it has a smoother surface than the benefits of insulation.
Complete wall protection with foam insulation
This type was molded to conform to the interior of your vinyl and is now available for fiber cement walls. Using it helps prevent cold air trapped between the house wall and the insulation. Complete wall protection may cost a little more than other types, as they are unique to each brand and profile.
The surface should have a solid feel.If you feel a hollow feeling, if pressed down,
the surface may be cut or improperly installed. Previously, this type used only with vinyl siding. But the latest technology has made this available for other types such as fiber cement.
When combined with fiber cement house siding, this can create a house with more than 600% efficiency. This is because this type protects your home from what is known as heat welding,
which is a practice that occurs when heat passes through. Traditional ball and transfer heat and energy out through the core
Whether you install new home siding to improve the current look of your home or you focus on improving energy efficiency, insulation is an important thing to consider. Talk to your contractor about what materials and insulation materials are best for your home and geographic location.
Be sure to ask questions about the type of contractor you usually use and check to make sure they have experience in the type you want to use. Improper installation will often invalidate the warranty,
leaving you stuck with heavy repair fees, so choose a knowledgeable contractor and have customer advice to back up.
